How do I pack all of my stuff?

Packing all your gear properly and in the appropriate luggage is very important. Please call us for assistance and suggestions!

Office: 1 - 800 - 214 - 3381 / Cell: 1 - 866 - 278 - 8378

BACKPACK/DAYPACK AND DUFFLE BAG OPTIONS. TWO BAG LIMIT! Everything except for the sleeping bag and pad should fit easily into these TWO BAGS (These two bags should equal approx. 6500 cu in. of storage). The sleeping bag and pad should be packed separately in a large stuff sack or heavy duty plastic bag. Please, no wheeled luggage or extra bags! Please bring only what is on the list below, as we have limited space for personal gear.

Small to midsize internal frame backpacks(3500-4500 cu in) with detachable hip pack capabilities are ideal if the program that you are attending has a backpack trip (check the itinerary). This type of pack is both a day (hip) pack, and a full overnight backpack. Internal frame backpacks can be expensive so they are not required. Adventurequest will supply frame packs on overnight excursions when they are needed. If you decide to bring an internal frame pack please limit the size of your second bag to"carryon" size, as you will have to check your backpack, and sleeping bag/pad at the airport. If your backpack does not have a separate, removable , small day pack, be sure to bring one. In this case bring two backpacks. Put your stuff inside your frame pack, and put your frame pack inside you duffle bag. The duffle bag helps protect your pack while traveling and your day pack becomes your "carry- on". Please, no external frame packs.

A small backpack or a large hip pack (2000-2500 cu in) is essential everyday gear. Small day packs can be as simple as a school backpack. Most of the time we will be carrying only what we need for the day...water bottle(s), lunch, snacks, sunscreen, camera, additional clothing, raingear, etc... If you are not bringing an internal fame backpack, you will need a larger duffle(not to exceed 4000 cu in) for storing your stuff.

All backpacks should fit properly!

Be sure to label all items brought to Adventurequest, we cannot be responsible for mixed up or misplaced personal belongings.

Required Gear

-Day Pack (as described above)

- One pair of comfortable, light weight, sturdy hiking boots or trail sneakers WITH GOOD TREAD. Please break in (wear) foot wear before our adventure!

- One pair of water shoes or water sandals.

- Sleeping bag and pad. Temperatures can dip down near freezing in the summer months in the northern Rockies. Sleeping bags with a 30-40 degree rating are recommended. Sleeping pads can be inflatable or closed cell foam. You will also need an additional stuff sack or strap to pack them for transport. Please make sure these items can pack up reasonably small.

- Headlamp or flashlight and batteries. We recommend Headlamps because it is nice to have two free hands at camp.

- Mess kits - Adventurequest will supply plates, bowls, forks, spoons etc... All you will need is a hot/cold drinking cup or mug. This will help us to reduce the clutter of our kitchen gear box.

- Bandanas or handkerchiefs (4) , for use as washcloths, or napkins.

- Two durable one quart water bottles (Nalgene, Coleman, etc...)

- Two hats. One sun blocking (ie...baseball cap), and one warm (ie...fleece winter cap).

- Sunglasses & sun block.

- Waterproof and breathable rain gear. Rain Jacket with hood and waterproof pants.

- One mid to heavy weight fleece Jacket. This should be your warmest article of clothing.

- One pair of capline or polypropylene long underwear. (Non-cotton top and bottoms.)

- Swim wear and Towel. Comfortable multifunction swim wear is best.

- Three or four short sleeve tee-shirts. Please no more than four!

- Two or three pairs of shorts.

- One light weight long sleeve shirt, light in color for sun protection.

- One pair of long pants (for hiking). Remember, you'll have long johns and rain pants too!

- Five pairs of socks, preferably acrylic/wool blend. Be sure to bring at least two pair of non-cotton socks.

-Five to seven pairs of underwear.

*Laundry - Campers will have the opportunity to do their own laundry once a week. Adventurequest supplies detergent and campers pay for the machines at the Laundromat. Budget approximately $5-$7 for each trip to the Laundromat.

-Personal Toiletries. Please limit what you bring. Although hygiene is very important, remember, you are camping! (Hairbrush, toothbrush, small tube of toothpaste, travel-size shampoo/conditioner, soap, deodorant, etc...) You will have the opportunity to buy additional travel-sized toiletries en route.

Note: The northern Rockies have a dry climate and the sun is strong in the summer months, bring a small tube of moisturizing lotion with aloe vera. Hint: Although the bugs are not really all that bothersome in the west, due to the dry climate, excessive perfume smells from toiletries can attract more bugs.

Optional Gear

- Camera and film. We recommend an inexpensive 35mm camera, and film. Disposable type cameras tend to take up a lot of space and can get to be fairly expensive. However, on water sports days waterproof disposable cameras can be handy, so you might want to bring one along. There are numerous photo opportunities so be sure to pack plenty of film.

- Binoculars. Small pocket size binoculars are great for viewing wildlife!

- Frisbee / Hacky sack. ...Perhaps a game of Ultimate Frisbee, or a group hack circle before dinner?

- Books, Journals, Log books. Keep track of your trip!

- SMALL camp chair. Crazy Creek, or Thermarest sleeping pad chair kit. This must fit inside your bag.

- Phone cards for calling home on scheduled calling days.

- Walkmans and discmans. Walkmans are allowed for use on travel days, down time, before bed, etc... The vans are equipped with cd players so campers can take turns playing the music in the Van. Campers will not be permitted to have headphones on during social camp time.

- Additional spending money. Campers usually bring seventy-five to one hundred dollars to spend on souvenirs, gifts, snacks, etc... Budgeting money to last two or three weeks is a good lesson for campers. Adventurequest offers a money sign out system to help campers budget their own money. We recommend that you purchase travelers checks.

RESTRICTED GEAR

*Please, NO GAMEBOYS OR OTHER ELECTRONIC GAME DEVICES are allowed at Adventurequest.

*Pocket knives. Campers DO NOT need knives for any specific reason at Adventurequest. NO KNIVES!
